Deans of the Faculty of Medicine

1.Prim. Dr. Sterjo (Ivan) Bozdov – Gjusha (07.01.1902-13.04.1987) was the first dean and one of the founders of the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje. He was an established specialist and full professor in the subject of Hygiene, a family doctor, director of the Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, member and president of the Board of Directors of the Macedonian Medical Association (MLD) and vice-rector of UKIM. Prim. Dr. Bozdov was dean for two terms (1947-1948; 1949-1950).

2.Prof. Dr. Božidar Niketić (18.01.1899-18.03.1963) was one of the first 19 teachers at the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje. He was an established neuropsychiatrist, full professor of Neurology and Psychiatry, head of the Department and director of the Neuropsychiatric Clinic, president of the MLD, and life president of the Neuropsychiatric Section. Prof. Dr. Niketić was dean for two terms (1950-1951; 1957-1958).

3. Prof. Dr. Dimitrije Juzbašić (03.09.1909-1974) is the founder of the Clinic for Surgical Diseases, full professor of Surgery, director and head of the Department of Surgery and member of numerous international professional associations. He was the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje from 1951 to 1952.

4.Prof. Dr. Miloje Vidakovic (28.01.1898-1974) was one of the first 19 teachers and the first vice-dean of the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje. He was a full professor of the subjects Physiology, Pathological Physiology and Pharmacology, an established balneologist and president of the International Organization of Balneologists. Prof. Dr. Vidakovic was the dean of the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje from 1952 to 1953.

5. Prof. Dr. Zdenko Krizhan (13.02.1915-23.07.2005) held the first lecture at the Faculty of Medicine-Skopje, which officially marked the beginning of teaching. He was the founder of the Institute and the Department of Anatomy, a full professor of Anatomy, the first director of the Institute and head of the Department of Anatomy. Prof. Dr. Kruzhan was the dean of the Faculty of Medicine-Skopje from 1953 to 1954.

6.Prof. Dr. Gligor Muratovski (22.03.1897-11.07.1976) is the founder of the Institute of Chest Diseases and a full professor of physiology at the Medical University of Skopje. He was the director of the State Hospital, head of the Tuberculosis Department, member of the Public Health Committee, president of the Association of Pneumatologists, the phthisiology section at the Macedonian Medical Association, the Section for Combating Tuberculosis, founder and president of the Macedonian Medical Association and the professional medical journal Macedonian Medical Review (MMP), one of the organizers of the first Congress of Physicians of Macedonia and a member of the Founding Assembly of the Red Cross. Prof. Dr. Muratovski was the dean of the Medical University of Skopje for three terms (1954-1955; 1958-1959; 1959-1960).

7. Prof. Dr. Dimitrije Atanacković (05.10.1914-27.07.2004) is the founder and first director of the Institute of Pharmacology. He was an editor and member of the editorial boards of the MMP and the Scientific Bulletin of the Council of Academies, a member of the Health Council of Macedonia, co-author of the textbook by Isak Tadžer, first secretary of the Association of University Teachers and president and member of the Trade Union of MF-Skopje. Prof. Dr. Atanacković was dean for two terms (1955-1956; 1956-1957).

8.Prof. Dr. Anton Chakmakov (28.02.1909-31.12.1967) was a full professor, head and director of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. He is one of the founders of the Union of Health Workers, president of the MLD, of the Association of Gynecologists and Obstetricians. He was the dean of the MF-Skopje from 1960 to 1963.

9.Acad. Isak Tadzer (24.12.1916-17.09.2006) is the founder of the Institute of Pathological Physiology and Nuclear Medicine. He was a renowned academician, specialist in nuclear medicine, internist, pathophysiologist, professor of Pathophysiology and Nuclear Medicine, editor-in-chief of the MMP, vice-rector of the University of Skopje, director of the IPNM, member of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (MANU), secretary of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences at MANU and president of the Faculty Council, the Teaching and Scientific Board. He is the author of the first textbooks on general and special pathophysiology in the Macedonian language. Academician Isak Tadzer was the dean of the Faculty of Medicine-Skopje from 1964 to 1965.

10.Acad. Aleksandar Andreevski (09.02.1922-28.10.2005) is the first Macedonian specialist in the field of otorhinolaryngology. He was a full professor, director and head of the Department of ENT, first director of the University Center for Medical Sciences (UCMN), vice-dean, dean and rector of UKIM, corresponding member, full member and vice-president of MANU, secretary of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences and president of the ENT section at the MLD. Acad. Andreevski was dean for two terms (1965-1967; 1967-1969).

11. Prof. Dr. Hristo Duma (28.11.1919-09.01.2009) was a full professor of Pediatrics and Molecular Biology with Human Genetics and Cytogenetics, director of the Clinic for Children’s Diseases, head of the Department of Pediatrics, member of the Dean’s Board, president of the Faculty Council, vice-dean and dean from 1969 to 1971. He founded the Hematology-Cytology and Genetics Laboratory and was a member of the Council of the Ministry of Medicine, the University Council, the board of the Association of Physicians of Macedonia (ZLM) and the Section for Pediatricians.

12. Academician Pencho Davchev (15.06.1922-25.11.1995) was an internist-gastroenterologist, founder of the Clinic for Gastroenterohepatology, head of the Department of Internal Medicine, vice-dean for two terms and dean of the Faculty of Medicine-Skopje from 1971 to 1973. Academician Davchev was president of the Medical Academy of Macedonia, of the Personnel Commission of the Faculty Administration, founder and president of the Section of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Medical Academy of Macedonia, member of the editorial board of the Medical Academy of Macedonia, of the congress board of the Medical Academy of Macedonia, of the Neuropsychiatric Clinic, of the Board of Directors of the Internal Clinic and of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences.

13.Prof. Dr. Radovan Perčinkovski (25.09.1922-04.01.1996) was the first director of the Cardiology Clinic, internist-cardiologist, full professor of Internal Medicine, dean of the Medical Faculty in Skopje from 1974 to 1976, secretary of the Macedonian Medical Association and member of the Editorial Board of the Macedonian Medical Association. He was the organizer and president of the Cardiology Section, vice president of the Macedonian Cardiologists Association, first head of the Department of Education, Research and Development, active member of the Red Cross, president of the Commission for Combating Alcoholism, member of the Council for Scientific Work, of the Board of Directors and the Council of the Medical Faculty-Skopje and of the Council of the Ear Clinic.

14. Prof. Dr. Save Mironski (14.11.1923-16.09.2013) was an internist, infectologist, full professor, director of the Clinic for Infectious Diseases, head of the Department of Infectology, vice-dean, dean from 1976 to 1978, member of the Republican Board of Trade Unions, the Executive Board of the same trade unions, the Republican Committee for Health and Social Policy, the Court of Honor, president of the Commission for Quarantine Diseases, the Section for Infectious Diseases, the Section for Infectologists, secretary of the MLD, etc.

15. Prof. Dr. Ljubomir Kotevski (03.08.1923-10.08.2014) is the founder of the Clinic of Pulmonology and Allergology, internist, pulmo-allergist, full professor, head of the Department of Internal Medicine, director of the UCMN, vice-dean and dean in two terms (1978-1980; 1980-1982). He was also president of the Association of Allergists and Clinical Immunologists, a member of the editorial board of the journals MG and GZMF, etc.

16. Prof. Dr. Borislav Karanfilski (31.08.1928-) is a pathophysiologist, specialist in nuclear medicine, full professor, director of the Institute of Pathophysiology and Nuclear Medicine, head of the Department, vice-rector of UKIM, vice-dean and dean from 1982 to 1984. He was a member of the Central Board of the Trade Union and was president of the Council of MF-Skopje, of MLD and the Association of Nuclear Medicine.

17. Prof. Dr. Branislav Nikodijevic (12.02.1929-21.12.2009) pharmacologist, full professor, founder of clinical pharmacology, founder, first acting dean and dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy in Skopje, director of the Institute of Preclinical and Clinical Pharmacology with Toxicology, vice-dean and dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy-Skopje in two terms (1984-1986; 1986-1988). He was an advisor to the World Health Organization, president of the Parent Commission, of the Pharmacological Society, the Faculty Council, etc.

18.Prof. Dr. Milan Jovanovski (12.10.1932-) pathologist, full professor, director of the Institute of Pathology, head of the Department of Pathological Anemia, vice-dean, dean of the Faculty of Medicine-Skopje from 1988 to 1990, vice-rector of UKIM. He was a delegate to the Republic Assembly, to the Assembly of Associated Labor, head of the Health and Social Policy Committee, president of the Council of the Faculty of Medicine-Skopje, of the Section of Pathologists, of the MLD, of the SZLM, and many other renowned medical and scientific associations.

19. Prof. Dr. Ilija Djonov (24.11.1943-) neuropsychiatrist, full professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje, teacher of Neurology at the Secondary Medical School, director of the Clinic for Nervous and Mental Diseases, director of the Clinical Center, the first specialist in Macedonia in the field of neuromuscular diseases, vice-dean for science and finance and dean for two terms (1990-1992; 1992-1994).

20. Prof. Dr. Ljubomir Čaparovski (08.03.1938-10.08.1999) was the director and head of the Rheumatology Clinic, a full professor at the Medical University of Skopje in the subject of Internal Medicine, an internist-rheumatologist, a polyglot, Dean of the Medical University of Skopje from 1994 to 1997 and a member of the European and World League against Rheumatism.

21. Prof. Dr. Milcho Bogoev (04.10.1948-) internist-endocrinologist, full professor, head and director of the Clinic for Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases, head of the Department of Internal Medicine, president of the Endocrinology Section, of the National Diabetes Committee, dean of the MF-Skopje from 1997 to 1999, editor and member of the MMP, member of the Editorial Board, etc.

22. Prof. Dr. Jordan Saveski (18.10.1945-) surgeon-traumatologist, full professor, director of the Traumatology Clinic, head of the Department of Surgery, director of the Emergency Surgery Center, secretary of the surgical section at the Macedonian Medical Academy, president of the Association of Surgeons, vice-dean for two terms, president of MADOT, dean for two terms (1999-2001; 2001-2004), expert for the preparation of the Health Strategy at the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts and member of many international associations.

23. Prof. Dr. Magdalena Zanteva-Naumoska (15.08.1947-) internist-cardiologist, full professor, head of the Department of Congenital and Acquired Heart Defects and Inflammatory Diseases, president of the Board for Postgraduate Studies, member of several cardiology associations, vice-dean and first female dean (2004-2009) of the Medical University of Skopje.

24.Prof. Dr. Nikola Jankulovski (04.03.1958-) surgeon, abdominal surgeon, teacher of the subject Surgery at the Secondary Medical School, full professor of Surgery at the Medical Faculty in Skopje, director of the Clinic for Digestive Surgery (2007-2009), dean of the Medical Faculty in Skopje for two terms (2009-2013; 2013-2016) and rector of UKIM for two terms (2016-2020; 2020-2023). He is a member of the Expert Committee of the Medical Chamber of Macedonia, the Society of Coloproctologists, the American Society of Abdominal Surgeons, the European Society of Digestive Surgeons, the MLD and many other renowned associations.

25.Prof. Dr. Sonja Topuzovska (1965-) specialist in medical biochemistry, full professor of the subjects Biochemistry, Clinical Biochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry. Vice-Dean for Education in two terms (2009-2013; 2013-2016) and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje in two terms (2016-2020 and 2020-2023). Member of: MLD, Association of Doctors Specialists in Medical Biochemistry, Association of the Balkan Federation of Clinical Laboratory (BCLF), International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC).
